We need more talented people at NetRelations. To be more specific, we need an ASP.NET developer for a position at our Stockholm office.

If you're a regular reader of this site, it will not surprise you that solid knowledge of web standards (or the desire to acquire that knowledge) is required. We do not use the sub-standard code .NET produces out of the box, so you will need to be able to tweak the output to perfection.

Experience from building websites that use the EPiServer CMS is an advantage, but not a must. You don't have to know the ins and outs of building accessible websites, but you should be interested in learning.

We're a growing team of people who are dedicated to delivering top quality stuff for a wide variety of clients. Come join us.

More details and information on where to send your application is available on the NetRelations website in Vi söker webbstandardinriktade ASP.NET-utvecklare till Stockholm.

Please note that I do not handle job applications, so use the contact info in the job ad linked to above rather than contacting me.

When we were in Hong Kong last year, we took the tram up to Victoria Peak. The experience is quite dramatic, crawling up an incredibly steep incline.

Since it’s on a cable, at each stop along the way you feel the sway up and down until the doors open, and of course all the blood is rushing to the back of your brain, and the world outside the train is diagonal. Multisensory displacement!

I was intrigued, then, to see the funiculaire at Sacre-Coeur in Paris.

It’s a clever design that keeps the passengers oriented in a more horizontal fashion. Simpler and easier, and between the two contrasting modes is perhaps a nice commentary on the different cultures.

Seeing a lot of bru-ha-ha over the little 5.6 earthquake that occurred in San Jose yesterday. Mostly from the new kids who aren't used to the ground moving hither-to-and-fro on its own accord, because nothing under a 6.4 is really anything to write home about.

So to you fault line-living n00bs I say: welcome to the Ring of Fire. You'll never get more than a two-second warning, so there's no need to worry needlessly. If the earth shakes, it shakes -- just ride it out as best you can and hope it's not going to turn into a 10.0+.

Also: Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat.

It Happened in 1972

JackP came up with the idea of some people publishing a Halloween story. This is mine. I hope you enjoy it. I actually did some light research for this one. Fear can live and breathe if you give it life in your mind. The longer you think about it and the more you believe in it, the larger it grows and the more real it becomes. That's what happened in the little town of Grant Heights, to a little boy named Bobby. It was October 31st, 1972. Halloween.

User Interface 12

On Friday I’m lucky enough to be flying to Boston to attend Jared Spool’s excellent User Experience 12 Conference. I’ve seen Jared speak on several occasions, and have always found him both entertaining and educational. This was one of the main reasons we were so excited when Jared agreed to speak at dConstruct this year. If you weren’t able to attend this session, I highly listening to the podcast.

Anyway, UI12 is one of the paramount conferences on the user experience calendar. There are some fantastic people speaking and I’m really looking forward to the full day workshops.

I’m also looking forward to visiting Boston as I’ve never been there before. I’ve managed to arrange two free days before the conference where I plan to go and explore the city. If you’re from Boston or have spent time there, I’d love to get any tips of recommendations you have. And if you fancy meeting up for a beer one evening, give me a shout.

After the conference I’m planning to hire a car for a couple of days and shoot up (or down) the coast. I’m not sure where is a good place to go, but I’m keen to catch the tail end of the fall, and check out some quintal, “Truman Show” style villages. If anybody has recommendations for somewhere nice that’s a days drive away from Boston, please let me know.

  • “One Best of Show winner will get US $1,000 in cold, hard cash.” I want to see a photograph of a winner and their cash. Because I don’t believe them. “Cash” means “check” in these situations. What organization can deal with the tax implications of giving out currency instead of a properly documented check? Not I.D. Mag, I’m betting.

I announced a few days ago about the newest Go Media vector pack release, Vector Pack 8, and they’ve generously posted a free vector sample pack on their blog. Swing by Go Media’s blog and download the sample pack. Mmmmm. . . yummy free vectors. Thanks Jeff! Love the guitar.

There are tons of undocumented Photoshop shortcuts out there, lots of which can make our lives a lot easier if we only take advantage of them. I want to show you one that I use often. I would only assume that as designers, we would typically have our rulers turned on most of the time. (I’ve tested this as far back as CS1) To access your Photoshop preferences quickly, just double-click on a ruler! That’s it!
